The webinar on ISO 42001 certification, hosted by Bas Overtoom and Nandan Savnal of Nemko Digital, provided a comprehensive overview of responsible AI implementation. The presenters highlighted how AI adoption is accelerating globally due to advanced computing capacity, abundant data, and strong business demand, with 64% of businesses expecting AI to increase productivity.

The session emphasized growing concerns around AI incidents, illustrated through case studies of an airline chatbot making unauthorized promises and a manufacturing robot injuring a worker. These examples underscored the critical need for robust AI governance frameworks like ISO 42001, which provides 38 specific controls across 14 key objectives using the PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Act) methodology.

Implementation steps were outlined, beginning with leadership engagement, capacity building, and policy development, followed by risk assessments, control implementation, monitoring, and certification. The presenters stressed that the most challenging aspects are establishing proper leadership structures and conducting thorough risk assessments, with 80% of attendees still in the exploration phase of ISO 42001 adoption.

Nemko Digital offers services including ISO 42001 implementation support, certification readiness assessment, AI trustmark certification, and maturity model assessment. The webinar concluded that responsible AI implementation through ISO 42001 provides a competitive advantage by enabling organizations to deploy AI more efficiently while managing risks.
